Okonjima is a family run business. Wayne, Donna and Rosalea Hanssen who co-own and live on the property, bought Okonjima from their parents in 1993 – turning, what was then a cattle farm, into a 22 000ha private conservation project.

When the Hanssen family embarked on a lifelong journey to take a unsustainable cattle|hunting farm – and turn it into a beautiful 55 000acre|20 000ha nature reserve and make it the ‘HOME’ of the AfriCat Foundation – we never would have thought, that a day would come that tourism would disappear entirely – and for the first time ever, we are unable to cover the baseline costs of this project . . . . due to Covid-19!

We want to thank you for your support and for helping us protect the all-important habitat for the animals out there – that you’ve come to see, for the carnivores and endangered species like the pangolin, the leopard, the brown hyaena and many more that we love, and you love ♥
THANK YOU!

The AfriCat Pangolin Research Project is the first of its kind within Namibia to focus on the ecology of the ground pangolin and you can read more here.

The research team at AfriCat would like to buy more equipment such as camera traps and tracking equipment to enable them to find out more about these wonderful animals and how to help them.

On World Pangolin Day and throughout 2020 your kind donation will help Kesley and the team at AfriCat purchase equipment to support the project.

Pangolins are currently in big trouble. They are being caught in their thousands and sold mainly for their scales which are thought to have medicinal properties in traditional eastern medicine and as a delicacy.

Funds raised will be used to buy camera traps and tracking devices. Your donations will be much appreciated by the team in Namibia!
